PPC SYSTEM INTEGRATION COMPANY IN NIGERIA
The National Integrated Power Project (NIPP) aims to build power generating stations and transmission substations to improve the electricity supply across Nigeria. The project is being executed by the Niger Delta Power Holding Company (NDPHC) on behalf of the federal government. Completed power stations are put up for sale while substations are handed over to Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) as part of the national grid.
PPC was awarded a contract under NIPP for implementation of a telecommunication network that provides communication and control systems. The services required include voice communication, telecontrol, SCADA and teleprotection. The stations were located nationwide. PPC partnered with Selta to achieve the engineering, procurement, and construction of a solution based on Selta’s product portfolio.
Teleprotection and telecontrol are indispensable components of the management of the power grid. They provide real-time capabilities and automation that the plant operators, engineering managers, and network planners need for transporting electricity from generating stations to distribution companies and ultimately end users in a safe and efficient manner. These are also the foundational technologies of smart grids.
Industry stakeholders also have instantaneous access to critical data from substation automation systems, RTUs and SCADA metering. Such data is the basis for informed evaluation and decision making. Inefficient operations and wastage are virtually eliminated to guarantee a satisfactory return on investment.
The teleprotection system, TPS, in particular, introduces a new level of safety to the fundamentally hazardous handling of high voltage lines. TPS transmits trip commands from one end of a HV line to the other end and provides isolation breakers the ability to open even if their protection relays do not detect the line faults. This averts explosions and fire incidents that have led to the loss of life and asset damage in the past.
